Santiago High School is located on the
eastern side of Garden Grove, CA (which is about 40 miles south of Los Angeles). It opened
in 1961 to accomodate the expanding population of Garden Grove.

The name Santiago High School comes from Rancho Santiago, a Spanish
land grant given to Jose Yorba, a Spanish soldier with the Portola Expedition that passed
through the area in 1769. Santiago High School was built on part of that land grant.

Santiago's mascot is the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers were a group of
knights from 12th century Spain who were responsible for protecting the nation and helping
the poor.

Santiago's colors are Purple (the color of royalty) and white
(the color of purity and truth).

Santiago originally competed in the Crestview League, where the
Cavaliers were League Champions in Cross Country their first year. Santiago began to
compete in the Garden Grove League in 1966-67. In 1974-75, the Lady Cavs Basketball team
became the first Garden Grove League team to win a CIF title (girls or boys). The field
hockey team has raised many championship banners, including Santiago's second CIF title in
1983-84 and their many other League Championships and CIF Championships.

Hail to thee our Alma Mater
Purple and white our pride.
Victory ever is our motto,
Courage is our guide.
Loyal to thee,
Thy sons and daughters,
Friendship is our tie.
Hail to thee our Alma Mater,
Santiago High.

FIGHT SONG

Music for the Fight Song is "The Orange Bowl".
CAV - A - LIERS
You do the fighting, the fighting,
the fighting to win.
CAV - A - LIERS
We do the cheering, the cheering, the cheering
For we're from Santiago
When you hear that thunder rising
That's a cheer for
C-A-V-A-L-I-E-R-S
CAV-A-LIERS
You do the fighting, the fighting, the fighting
To win this game!
