Top of the World
Getting There:
From Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach, turn east on Legion. This turns into Park Ave. within a few blocks. Keep heading up into the hills until you hit Alta Laguna Blvd. Turn left and park at the end of the cul-de-sac.
The Ride:
There are four single tracks which link the upper West Ridge Trail with the bottom of Wood Canyon Trail. My favorite ride is to head scream down the West Ridge Trail and turn right on Rock-It just before the water tank. Shoot down Rock-It which quickly dives to the valley over rocks and other obstacles. Turn left at the bottom and after passing the Lynx trail climb up the Cholla Trail. This short steep climb can take a lot out of you. After reaching the top of Cholla head back up the West Ridge trail and turn left on Lynx. At the bottom of Lynx turn right and head all the way back to Mathis. The Mathis climb is the longest and steepest of them all but well worth the work. At the top, turn left and head back to your car. This ride will take 1 hour to 2 hours depending on your ability. Rookies will probably walk most of Cholla and Mathis. Check the Map for a better description
