Moro Canyon
Getting There:
El Morro Canyon is located on Pacific Coast Highway between Laguna Beach and Corona Del Mar. Park in the State Park parking lot and make sure to bring a crisp $5 bill for the parking machine. Parking tickets are no joke to the rangers.
The Ride:
This is a 3,000 acre mountain bike mecca. The northern No Name Ridge and Red Tail Ridge are connected to the southern Moro Ridge Trail by other small trails through the lower Moro Canyon Trail. My favorite ride is to head down Moro Canyon Trail and climb up I Think I Can (Trail #2) and turn left on the upper Moro Ridge Trail. Once on the ridge, head to the far end of the park and look for a narrow single track vearing to the left after the 3rd or 4th short steep climb. Take this single track around across the back of the park. Stay to the right at the the first two fire roads heading down and you will connect to another section of single track. You will end up at the far end of No Name Ridge. Head down and at the Y intersection go left. You are now on Red Tail Ridge. This will take you through the most technical portion of the park. You will roller coaster over rocks and bumps. Towards the end of this section you will descend what appears to be a series of rock shelves. At the end go right and after climbing another short section turn left heading back down the hill towards El Moro Canyon. This will take you back to Moro Canyon Trail and back to the parking lot. This ride will take less than 1 hour to 2 hours depending on your ability. Check the Map for a better description
